The eastern Loire has been a nexus of viticulture since Gallic times thanks to its proximity to major Roman and Celtic trade routes. That tradition of inter-regional exchange continues to this day with Henri Bourgeois' "Les Amphores" rose, which is made with Beaujolais region's premier variety, Gamay. This particular wine is a 'bled rose' obtained by draining or 'bleeding' vats of Gamay juice after 48 hours of cold maceration. The product is a bouquet of wild berry and red cherry, with a sprightly acidity that dances on the tongue. Enjoy it on its own, or with a rustic Provencal bouillabaisse.
