In the small village of Verdigny, a commune of Sancerre in
the eastern Loire, the Reverdy family has been making wine
for generations. In 1971, Michel Hippolyte joined his
father, and by 1983 he began working with Kermit Lynch
Imports, who continues to bring their wines to the U.S.
today. True to Kermit Lynch’s philosophy, the vineyards see
no pesticides, fermentations rely on native yeasts, and no
extra sulfites are added, resulting in wines of purity and
precision. The Hippolyte Reverdy Sancerre Blanc embodies
that style perfectly: pale straw with greenish highlights,
it offers a nose of citrus, white flowers, and crushed
stone. On the palate it is clean and linear, with lively
acidity and flavors of green apple, pear, and lemon carried
on a distinctly mineral backbone of limestone and chalk.
Light to medium in body yet full of energy, it broadens
across the palate and lingers with a crisp, stony finish.
Its brightness and elegance make it a natural partner for
oysters, clams, or lobster, where the harmony is nothing
short of remarkable.
