From renowned Spanish producer Alvaro Palacios and he nephew Ricardo Perez comes their Petalos, a red wine from Bierzo, Spain, made with Mencia grape from old hillside and hilltop vines from across Bierzo’s western edge. The cool northwest corner of Spain is particularly attractive to the Mencia grape along with its soil of a rocky mix, volcanic minerals and Atlantic influences. These hard to reach vineyards are worked by hand and the estate employs biodynamic viticulture methods. All this produces a wine that is replete with blackberry and violet aromas and a great herbal freshness. Positively dry on the palate with a touch of spice, this wine enjoys a long and crisp mineral finish which makes it very food-flexible and will pair with many menus.
