The Comtesse de Lalande from Château Pichon Longueville is one of the sterling leaders of the second growth bordeauxs. The Pichon estate was famously split in 1850, when Pierre de Rauzan divided the land among his children evenly, with his daughters coming to manage the three fifth's of the property that we know today as Château Pichon Lalande. Cut with a larger percentage of merlot than many of its constituents in Pauillac, the Lalande bordeaux continues to exhibit a softer, more 'feminine' style that is all its own.
