2019 Sierra Cantabria Rioja — Savor Spain

Thursday, April 18, 2024
2019 Sierra Cantabria Crianza Rioja

Many are away on vacation this week but if you are not, no need to feel stuck at home when you can take a whirlwind trip by opening a bottle of wine. Come with us today as we take a quick trip to Spain and explore this land of rich culture, stunning landscapes, and of course, delicious wine. We visit the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria where the the Eguren family produces the 2019 Sierra Cantabria Crianza Rioja ($21.99) — a Crianza, which means it's aged for more than 12 months in both French and American oak barrels. The result is a wine with a bright, ruby-red color with tones of ripe berry fruit and notes of cocoa and coffee. The palate is powerful and well balanced with nuances of the oak aging. Sturdy but with ripe tannins, this wine remains both complex and harmonious right through the finish. As the nights start to warm up and you think about that big, fat burger or juicy NY Strip Steak, this wine from the Eguren family promises to be an ideal complement. Saturday we pour both the 2019 Sierra Cantabria Crianza Rioja ($21.99) and the 2023 Alexander Valley Vineyard Gewürz ($18.99) — a delicious and innovative take on Gewürztraminer from California. 2022 Clos Henri Otira Sauvignon Blanc

As we close out October we still have only grazed the surface of new wines we have in stock. Most of you are familiar with the French winemakers Famille Bourgeois, but this week we travel to New Zealand to bring you their 2022 Clos Henri Otira Sauvignon Blanc ($23.99). This Sauvignon Blanc greets you with hints of sliced lemon and pineapple. The wine itself is full and layered with flavors of mango and white fruit. The density on the palate is enhanced by the crisp, mineral finish. Serve this up with your favorite snapper or white fish recipe, or a delicious plate of fresh oysters. For those of you who are in the market for a Non-Alcoholic drink, we introduce to you The Pathfinder Hemp & Root ($39.99), a fermented and distilled hemp-based mixer. Herbal and aromatic, this is one NA mixer that you definitely want to try. Saturday we pour both the 2022 Clos Henri Otira Sauvignon Blanc ($23.99) and the 2020 Camarda Nerello Mascalese ($23.99), along with The Pathfinder Hemp & Root ($39.99). 2020 Uccelliera Rapace

There is nothing more inviting than the Tuscan countryside and wines from this region are always a welcome sight on any table. Home to the Sangiovese grape, this region brings us everything from a simple Chianti all the way up to the celebrated Brunello. This week we visit Uccelliera to bring you their 2020 Uccelliera Rapace ($36.99). This wine opens with a medium-dark color and nice concentration. The bouquet offers primary aromas of dark fruit and plum framed by nuances of sweet spice, cedar and tobacco. You can pair it with everything from appetizers to any meat-based main dishes, but Uccelliera made less than 900 cases so pick up a bottle today! Saturday we pour both the 2020 Uccelliera Rapace ($36.99) along with the 2022 Lafon Mâcon Villages Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon ($29.99) — a beautiful white Burgundy.
